Darwin Dragons Have a Rock to Lean On

Rocktown has joined forces with the Darwin Dragons to support senior and junior rugby union development for the 2015 year. The JKC lower tier subcontractor will support senior, 7s and under age development squads. The construction company is working under Leighton Contractors on the main civil works at Bladin Point.

Rocktown General Superintendent Jack Halton is thrilled to work with the local club.
“As a company, Rocktown takes every opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the community in which we are working,” Jack said.
“We are committed to working with the community through sourcing local skilled labour, and partnering with clubs such as the Darwin Dragons.
“We wish them growing success in the coming years.”

The Dragons have a strong history in local rugby union after first entering the league in 1976-77. Club President Puru Westrupp is delighted with the partnership.
"This year was all about creating a successful pathway for our junior teams to reach the senior grade,” Puru said.
“Four out of five of our junior teams made the grand finals this year which is a huge achievement. With the backing of Rocktown, I have great expectations for the Darwin Dragons for 2015.”

Rocktown’s Bull Riding Champion

Luke Davidson, a loader driver on the Ichthys LNG Project with Rocktown Pty, recently took out the bull riding championship title at the Noonamah rodeo. Having grown up around horses and on the campdraft scene, Luke has been bull riding all his life and even spent five years on the bull riding circuit throughout the US and Canada.

With the backing of his employer, Luke has secured sponsorship for three Darwin rodeo events at Noonamah and Robbie Robbins Reserve. “Rocktown is very pleased to support Luke in his unusual pastime of bull riding,” said Rocktown Superintendant, Jack Halton who brings his family to rodeo events to support Luke.

“We hope to see a good crew from the Project cheering Luke on at the last two events of the season – it’s an amazing spectator sport but I won’t be volunteering to give it a go anytime soon!”Despite working long hours on the Project for the past 12 months, Luke can be found training at Noonamah most nights of the week, his passion for the sport unhindered.

Luke lives in Bayview with his fiancée Maria-Theres who supports his rodeo ventures, aspiring to join the ranks of rodeo royalty as a finalist in the Miss Australian Rodeo Quest Inc. Luke will be in action on 22 August at the Darwin Championship Rodeo at Robbie Robbins Reserve.
